This exam counts for 25 per cent of your overall marks at HL, or 45 per cent of your overall marks at SL.
For Paper 2 you need to answer two essay questions related to the two different topics you have been taught here at Kolding Gymnasium. They are:
Topic 10 / Authoritarian states (using Hitler’s Germany, Mao’s China and Mussolini’s Italy as examples)
Topic 11 / Causes and effects of 20th century wars (using the First World War 1914-1918, the Chinese Civil War 1927-1937 and 1946-1949, the Second World War in the Pacific (1939-45) and finally the Spanish Civil War 1936-9 as examples).
You must answer two questions, each selected from a different topic (see above). Some comparative questions on this paper require that examples be drawn from more than one region. The maximum mark for this paper is 30. The paper is marked using generic markbands and a paper-specificmarkscheme.
In the exam booklet there will only be 2 questions per topic, and both questions for each topic will be open and will not refer to a named example. Comparative questions may ask for examples drawn from different regions (i.e. Asia and Europe).
You must write both essays and have 1,5 hours to do so.
Paper 2 / Essay Question Example:
Compare and contrast the causes of two 20th century civil wars, each chosen from a different region.
